AT WHAT AGE DID YOU REALISE THAT MUSIC WAS YOUR PASSION?

When I was 6 my primary school head teacher was hosting acoustic guitar sessions at lunch times. My parents both play, so they advised me to go along and see if I enjoyed it. Turns out I did. I got my first electric guitar when I was 14, and from that point on I became obsessed with writing small riffs and songs. We had a piano in the house when I was growing up, so hammering the keys slowly turned into chords, keys, songs and albums.

OBVIOUSLY GUITAR IS A HUGE PART OF YOUR LIFE. ARE THERE ANY OTHER INSTRUMENTS THAT YOU PLAY?

I was always surrounded by instruments when I was younger, so i play a little on several instruments. I'd say my main instruments are guitar, piano and bass. They're what made me who I am today.

LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM ‘THREE’S A CROWD’. WHERE DOES THE NAME COME FROM?

Well, I used to be in a rock trio called ‘Mayhem’ which unfortunately states the situation on the tin. It became stressful and chaotic, with arguments and insults thrown everywhere. So I decided to quit; become solo. The new album relates to my past, with memories as a child to what I had for breakfast on the day of writing. I decided that ‘Three’s A Crowd’ was appropriate for the situation I was in at the time of becoming a solo artist.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU THROUGHOUT THE SONGWRITING PROCESS?

My past was definitely a huge part of what inspired me. The whole transition from being in a trio to a solo artist was a huge step, so I suppose my thoughts and emotions in this time are reflected in my songs. My album includes a range of songs, from high tempo and exiting to , well, ones that you’d listen to in harder times. I always try to use problems in my lyrics that my audience can relate to. Their feedback is what’s most important to me.

HOW DID YOU BALANCE YOUR SOCIAL LIFE ALONGSIDE WITH ALL THE WORK PUT INTO THE ALBUM?

A lot of the people that I hang around with in my own time are from the studio, so I suppose my social life wasn’t affected. I’d spend roughly 3 hours a day in the studio, then usually go out for a drink/bite to eat afterwards.  If I was ever in the situation where I had to say no to a friend, they’d understand. They know how much my career means to me. 

 WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN  5 YEARS TIME?

Hopefully I’ll still be doing the same. Song writing, going out and having fun. I’m 23 years old, I still have a lot left to give to the industry. Performing at Wembley has always been a huge dream of mine, so hopefully that will be ticked off my to-do list.
